Here are the home firewalls with which we have some experience:
ZoneAlarm Pro is a popular software package used to perform basic packet filtering and other security-related tasks. Here is how we got ZoneAlarm to work with Conference Manager:
Doubleclick on the ZoneAlarm icon in the system tray, navigate to the "Firewall" section, and then to the "Internet Zone Security" section.
You can proceed in one of two ways:
or
If your LinkSys router has firmware that is sufficiently recent, it may support "Port Triggering", whereby you can avoid altogether the static IP address entry as required above in the "Port Forwarding method".
The advantage of Port Triggering is that the traffic bearing the inbound Conference Manager session data is automatically directed to the host that solicited it. That is, the host running Conference Manager. Note, however, that while the traffic is routed to the host running Conference Manager automatically, only one host may be running Conference Manager at any one time.
If your router supports Port Triggering, do not configure the router as in "Port Forwarding method" above, but rather try this:
Add support for video on ports 15920 and 15921. First, add support for video on port 15920...
Apple calls this 'port mapping' and here's how it says to set it up:
Assign a static IP to the PC. Then click the 'Port Mapping' tab of the AirPort Admin Utility. Click Add and enter the following information:
The 'Private IP Address' will be the manually assigned, private IP address of your computer (a 10.something address).
It does not specify UDP or TCP; it appears to forward both. It also doesn't appear to support ranges, so below we provide a narrower set of ports to forward:
The above will give you audio and video. You will also need to forward 15924 and 15925 if you want to use shared whiteboard. In all cases, the 'Public Port' and the 'Private Port' will be the same.
As to setting up a 'permanent' IP address for the PC, it says you want to use an IP address in the range 10.0.1.201 to 10.0.1.254. So, assuming you use IP address 10.0.1.201 on the PC, then the AirPort Admin Utility 'Port Forwarding' info should be:
| Public Port | Private IP Address | Private Port |
| 15920 | 10.0.1.201 | 15920 |
| 15921 | 10.0.1.201 | 15921 |
This supports video only. To add support for audio, add:
| Public Port | Private IP Address | Private Port |
| 15922 | 10.0.1.201 | 15922 |
| 15923 | 10.0.1.201 | 15923 |
And to add shared whiteboard, add:
| Public Port | Private IP Address | Private Port |
| 15924 | 10.0.1.201 | 15924 |
| 15925 | 10.0.1.201 | 15925 |
