EarthLink AVL Developer Contest!

The AVL Developer Contest is now closed and we are accepting no further entries.


You now have the chance to win an EarthLink AVL of your own along with other cash and prizes. Announcing the EarthLink AVL Developer Contest. The contest is intended to help produce awareness of and interest in the emerging automotive telematics market and to foster development of the best business and consumer applications for the EarthLink AVL platform.

All you have to do is tell us what you want to do (or what you could do for that matter) with the EarthLink SPARK AVL Developer Kit. Entries will be judged by EarthLink and six (6) winners will receive a free EarthLink AVL unit. In addition, the Overall Favorite Application winner will receive one full year of free AVL service and may choose one of the following:

  • 1 year of EarthLink DSL or Cable access (where applicable); or
  • RIM 957 wireless handheld plus 6 months service; or
  • $500 cash

Winners in the best Navigation, Directory, Entertainment, Security, and M-commerce categories will receive an AVL Developer Kit with three months of free AVL service and may choose one of the following:

  • 1 year of free EarthLink dial-up access; or
  • RIM 950 wireless handheld plus 3 months service; or
  • $250 cash

Write down your application and send your suggestion to avlcontest@research.earthlink.net with AVL Developer Contest as the subject.

Contest FAQ

Q: Can I submit multiple entries to the AVL Contest?
A: Absolutely. However, you will be eligible to win only one AVL.

Q: Why should I submit multiple entries when I can win only one AVL?
A: Multiple entries increase your chances of winning.

Q: Who decides who the winners should be?
A: EarthLink decides and all decisions are final.

Q: Where will the results be published?
A: The winning applications will be published here on the EarthLink R&D web site.

Q: When will the results be published?
A: The contest results will be published on the EarthLink R&D web site by January 31, 2002.

Q: I work for this really cool company EarthLink. Am I allowed to participate in the AVL contest?
A: No.

Q: When I win the contest, do I need to pay for shipping?
A: No, EarthLink will pay for that.

Q: What about intellectual properties? Will EarthLink steal my idea?
A: EarthLink will not claim any rights; we will just publish the winning applications. If you think you've got a killer application that will make you rich, don't enter the contest. Instead, buy a SPARK AVL Developer Kit and get to work :-)

Q: I hate spam. Will you use my e-mail address to send me stuff I don't want?
A: We hate spam as much as anyone else. Your e-mail address will only be used if we need additional information from you regarding your contest entry, or if you are one of the winners and we need to know where to ship your prize AVL.

Q: I have a question that is not covered in this FAQ, who should I ask?

Things our lawyers make us say

Any possible official charges, costs and taxes imposed upon the participants relating to the participation in the competition shall be solely borne by the participants.

The prize, EarthLink AVL, is delivered "as is", free from any warranty of any kind. EarthLink disclaims all warranties, whether expressed or implied, including but not limited to, any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement, with respect to the prize.
